The programs of the Hai Fung Club vividly show their enthusiasm and confidence in promoting Western artistic activities and sporting events. 54 Of course, along with their own cultural background, the timing of their arrival in Canada (when overt discrimination against Chinese people was receding) also explains their ability to make changes.

Only the departure of many members for China after 1945 precipitated its decline. Then, in 1954, several dozen young immigrants interested in Cantonese opera joined and reactivated the organization.
