Feng shui was, and is, a crucial part of architectural design in China and can operate on a room, house, palace, or even city scale. His grand memorial stands in Nanjing (p. 405), and Sun is still fondly remembered on both sides of the Taiwan Strait. Under Chiang the military dictatorship of the KMT allowed the privileged to prosper but ignored the needs of the masses, and little was done to rid the country of foreign interference.
