There certainly is a place for this concept in the creative drama group, but a subtle one. Play, creativity and spontaneity are appropriate and meaningful at every age. A note on gender I assume that both drama workers and participants in groups can be of either gender. I have written of the group leader as 'she', by which is to be understood 'she or he'. In writing about participants I have used both male and female examples. In each case the participant could equally well be of the opposite gender.

Flexibility One of the joys of leading a creative drama group is that it is full of surprises. The creative response of the group will often be quite different from your own expectations. The ability to incorporate new ideas and new interpretations of the group into the framework of the session will greatly enhance the work. The level of control appropriate to leading a creative drama group is one that gives a feeling of safety, containment and sufficient guidance while valuing the spontaneous contributions of group members.
