distant Sensing has significant capability to supply trustworthy details. A Geographic info approach is a straightforward software for manipulating and analysing the knowledge in a transparent and quickly method. This e-book describes in seven useful examples how GIS and distant Sensing concepts are effectively utilized in land and water management.

In 1997 no in situ measurements were made during the airborne remote sensing flight. The same procedure for the 1995 flight was followed. Lakes with known low concentrations were used to fine-tune the atmospheric correction. Once the R(O-) had been calculated, the same algorithms from 1995 were applied. Plate 1 shows the 1995 and 1997 thematic water quality maps. The local water management authorities did sample some parameters in the weeks surrounding the date of the flight, and these were in good accordance with the estimated parameters from the imaging spectrometry flight.

However, impervious areas, which drain to a pervious part before the water reaches the channel, are not considered as impervious. The drainage system of the pervious part (generally the main part) of the basin is divided into: • an upper zone, representing the basin surface system; • a lower zone, representing the basin groundwater reservoir system. Both zones have a tension and a free water storage element. Tension water is considered as the water closely bound to soil particles. Generally, first the tension water requirements are fulfilled before water is entering the free water storage, although some important exceptions are present.
