Following the Clear Vision conference, the Sports Council convened a National Disability Sport Conference in March 1996, one result of which was the establishment of a Task Force to ‘lead to the mainstreaming of disability sport in England by the year 2000’ (Sports Council Disability Task Force, 1997: 2). The Sports Council’s Disability Task Force included key representatives from the Sports Council, the NDSOs and NGBs of sport. The remit of the Task Force was to: (i) advise the Sports Council on matters relating to disability sport; and (ii) to consider and make recommendations as to the future of disability sport within England (Sports Council Disability Task Force, 1997: 9).
Organized by the BSAD, and chaired by Bob Price, the purpose of the Think Tank was to ‘investigate the current status and future needs of the provision of physical recreation and sport for disabled people in Britain’ (BSAD, 1985: 2). The three day meeting focused on discussing why BSAD existed, how BSAD related to the Sports Council and how it related to those DSOs whom it served. The meeting was attended by 56 delegates from 38 organizations representing a broad range of disability sport and mainstream sport organizations.
